Location

Lakeway refers to the west Austin area south of Lake Travis and north of Highway 71, with Ranch Road 620 bordering to the east and Highlands Blvd to the west. Bee Cave is a continuation of that area, stretching further east to Bee Cave Road and south past Hamilton Pool Road to the neighborhoods below Highway 71 and west of Barton Creek.

History

The suburb of Lakeway is, of course, named for the lake that it borders, Lake Travis. Though it’s hard to imagine now, the Lake Travis of today did not exist prior to the construction of the Mansfield Dam in 1941. It was after this major economic and historical event that the area around the lake became rich in growth and opportunities, spurring its development as a city.

Originally a resort destination, Lakeway experienced its major growth spurt after the 1990’s, and has since become a highly sought-after area for its natural beauty and hilltop views, as well as its highly-rated public school district and athletic program, which has won 19 total state championships since 2007.
